Travel Info & Local Advice
Salmon Cottage nestles down at the natural harbor in the sleepy village of Kinghorn on Fife's east coast. A few short steps from the cottage door will take you to the beach and onto the sea shore of the Firth of Forth.
Kinghorn has its own 18 hole course within walking distance from the cottage and the Royal & Ancient St. Andrews course is only short distance up the coast. There is a further twenty plus 18 hole courses to choose from in the surrounding areas.
Golfing ,snorkeling, fishing, bird watching, sailing and wind surfing, are all common activities all along the Fife coast. Walk or cycle the well sign posted Fife coastal path route, plan short or long routes along the coastal path to the Forth bridges or right round the coast to St. Andrews and beyond.
Why not leave the car at the cottage and take a train ride from the small Kinghorn Station across the famous Forth Bridge into Edinburgh to visit the many historic sights including Edinburgh castle, Sir Walter Scott's monument, the British museum and the new Scottish parliament building. Or browse around the trendy shops and cafe bars on and around Princess Street. The journey takes around 40 minutes and an off peak same day return ticket costs around £5.
Salmon Cottage in Kinghorn is ideally located as a base for day trips up to the highlands. Take the old A9 route up through Perth into Pitlochry, Brea mar and beyond to follow the highland whiskey trail.
